Team Secret delivers a stunning defeat to DRX, ending their undefeated streak in VCT Pacific with an impressive sweep

DRX Suffers Defeat to Team Secret in VCT Pacific Superweek

In a surprising turn of events during the VCT Pacific league’s superweek, DRX, the giants of the league, faced their first loss of the regular season on May 13. Team Secret, with a losing record of 3-4, managed to sweep DRX 2-0, securing their hopes of going to Masters Tokyo.

Team Secret’s victory was unexpected, especially considering DRX’s previous flawless record of 7-0. They showcased impressive gameplay, particularly on Haven, where they won decisively with a score of 13-8.

The series was not simply a case of DRX underperforming. Team Secret rose to the occasion and displayed exceptional teamwork and individual skill. In-game leader Jessie “JessieVash” Cristy Cuyco made crucial calls to counter DRX’s strategies, while Jim “BORKUM” Timbreza delivered crucial kills. Jeremy “Jremy” Cabrera also played a vital role, showcasing versatility in different roles and tying for the most kills on their team throughout the series.

The second map, Ascent, saw DRX start strong with a 9-3 lead during their attack, but the infamous 9-3 curse struck again. Team Secret delivered a brilliant performance, only losing two rounds during their attack. Jremy and JessieVash maintained their impressive form from Haven. Both teams demonstrated their preparation for the series, with neither losing a single post-plant scenario while attacking. DRX won all nine rounds, but Team Secret matched them with a flawless record of 10-10.

In a post-match interview, JessieVash expressed admiration for his team’s performance against such a formidable opponent. He acknowledged that their victory on Haven was a result of studying DRX’s previous matches on that map.

Despite the significant win, JessieVash recognized that there are more challenges ahead in their quest to qualify for Masters Tokyo.

“I think this win will boost our confidence, especially for players who have had underwhelming performances recently. We need to strive for consistency,” JessieVash stated. “We have analyzed our previous match against Global Esports, and we are determined to win our upcoming games and secure a spot in the playoffs.”
