Team Liquid alters strategy for their initial VALORANT Champions match due to Nivera’s COVID-19 positive test and subsequent isolation

Team Liquid’s Nivera to Play from Isolated Room in VALORANT Champions Event

In the upcoming VALORANT Champions event, Team Liquid’s Nivera will be playing from an isolated room due to testing positive for COVID-19, according to an announcement by Riot Games. The tournament schedule has been slightly adjusted to accommodate for this situation.

VALORANT Champions: The Biggest Event of the Year

VALORANT Champions, the final event of the VALORANT Champions Tour and the largest VALORANT event of the year, is set to commence tomorrow. Sixteen teams from around the world will compete in Berlin for the title of the inaugural VALORANT champion.

Preparations for COVID-19 Outbreak

To prevent and potentially postpone the event due to a COVID-19 outbreak, the teams have already been in quarantine upon their arrival in Berlin. However, Team Liquid’s Nivera has tested positive for COVID-19, making it impossible for him to play alongside his team on the main stage. Fortunately, Riot has prepared an isolated room where Nivera can compete without posing a risk to others.

Riot stated, “Our policy states that if a player tests positive for COVID-19 but feels well enough to compete and chooses to play, the affected team and their opponent will play the scheduled match on a LAN network built in the quarantine facilities. The player who tested positive will compete from an isolated room while their teammates and the opposing team will compete from two nearby practice rooms. The order of matches on a given day is subject to change.”

Schedule Adjustment and Team Liquid’s Response

The event will proceed as planned, but Team Liquid’s match against KRU Esports has been moved to the last slot on Thursday, December 2, to accommodate the isolated play. The match between Sentinels and FURIA will now take place at 11am CT on December 2.

Team Liquid has confirmed that despite Nivera’s absence in the same room, he feels fine and will compete with the team as planned. If the team advances to the playoffs, fans may have the opportunity to see the full squad compete on the main stage.
