T1 recruits former CS:GO pro Food to VALORANT team

T1 Signs Former CS:GO Player Victor “Food” Wong for VALORANT Roster

T1 has added another player to its VALORANT roster by signing Victor “Food” Wong, a former CS:GO player. The organization announced the signing on Twitter. Prior to joining T1, Food played for Swole Patrol and previously represented eUnited and Team Singularity in CS:GO.

Food’s addition to T1 was celebrated by the team on Twitter, with them expressing their confidence in his abilities. Food played for Swole Patrol for three months this year, with a brief stint with eUnited in between. During his time with eUnited, Food achieved a top-eight finish at ESL One New York and the 10th season of the ESL Pro League.

T1’s VALORANT roster already includes former CS:GO players Keven “AZK” Larivière, Austin “Crashies” Roberts, and Braxton “Brax” Pierce, who was Food’s teammate on Swole Patrol. The team will be coached by Daniel “fRoD” Montaner, who previously coached Lazarus Esports and Swole Patrol before transitioning to VALORANT.

Aside from Food and his T1 teammates, other professional players have also made the switch to VALORANT. Swole Patrol captain Ryan “Freakazoid” Abadir recently announced his retirement from CS:GO to pursue a career in VALORANT. Other players from the Overwatch scene, such as Sinatraa, the reigning Overwatch League MVP and champion, have also made the transition to VALORANT.

VALORANT Esports: Embracing a “Grassroots” Ambition

While Riot Games has achieved immense success with the esports scene for League of Legends, they have stated their intention for VALORANT’s esports scene to have a more grassroots approach. This means that the development of the competitive scene for VALORANT will be focused on fostering talent from the ground up.
