T1 adds seasoned Overwatch League star to their powerful 2023 VCT lineup

Overwatch League Star Carpe Joins T1 VALORANT Roster for 2023 Season

Lee “Carpe” Jae-hyeok, a prominent figure in the Overwatch League, has officially announced his departure from the game to pursue a career in VALORANT. He will be joining the T1 VALORANT roster for the 2023 season in the VCT Pacific League.

The Philadelphia Fusion, the team Carpe has played for throughout all five seasons of OWL, bid farewell to the talented DPS player as he takes on his “next challenge” of playing professional VALORANT for T1. Reports of Carpe’s move to VALORANT first surfaced at the end of October, just days before Fusion’s elimination from the 2022 OWL playoffs.

Carpe will be joining two other OWL veterans, Ha “Sayaplayer” Jung-woo and Byeon “Munchkin” Sang-beom, on T1’s roster. Sayaplayer previously played for the Florida Mayhem and The Guard in VALORANT, while Munchkin was part of the Seoul Dynasty, Boston Uprising, and Crazy Raccoon VALORANT teams. All three players will be competing in Asia’s Pacific League, which includes other former OWL stars like Park “Bazzi” Jun-ki from Global Esports and Patiphan “Patiphan” Chaiwong from Talon Esports.

In a heartfelt farewell video, Carpe expressed his gratitude for his five-year run with the Fusion, describing it as “truly precious, unforgettable, and honorable.” Despite not winning the OWL Championship during his time with the team, Carpe had notable achievements such as winning the Role Star award for DPS players in season three and being the first OWL player to reach 4000 total final blows. He also played a key role in Korea’s victory at the Overwatch World Cup in 2018.

Carpe’s official debut in VALORANT is expected to take place at the VCT 2023 Kickoff tournament in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in February.
