Strange VALORANT agent comp at Champions hints at the comeback of the vexing spray-and-pray meta

LOUD Shocks with Unconventional Triple Controller Comp at VCT Champions Los Angeles

If you thought the Harbor-Viper VALORANT meta was chaotic, LOUD has taken it to the next level. In their match against Natus Vincere, LOUD surprised everyone by pulling out a triple controller strategy. And it worked.

NAVI was left stunned as LOUD’s Omen-Viper-Brimstone trio secured their spot in the Champions 2023 playoffs. But how did this unconventional team composition manage to defeat one of the best teams in EMEA?

Well, LOUD’s plan was actually formidable. They combined the popular Viper and Brimstone picks with the versatile Omen, known for his initiating and dueling abilities.

LOUD’s Omen played a key role in pressuring NAVI’s defense and creating post-plant opportunities. Additionally, having a third controller allowed LOUD’s Brimstone to use three sky smokes without the limitations of the rechargeable mechanic. With Viper providing her utility, LOUD’s plan looked promising, especially on the defensive side.

However, there are concerns that LOUD’s strategy may bring back the chaotic “spray-and-pray” meta to the professional VALORANT scene. The recent nerfs to Viper’s fuel regeneration had shifted the meta towards more strategic gameplay, but triple smokes can counter those nerfs and give Viper a strong pseudo-sentinel role.

During the match, LOUD’s execution was filled with smokes, reminiscent of the “spam fest” meta dominated by Viper and Harbor. NAVI managed to counter LOUD’s strategy in most places but had to use valuable utilities to clear vision blockers and push through the smokes.

While Bind has historically favored a double-controller meta, LOUD’s success with the triple controller comp raises questions about a potential meta shift on the map.
