ShahZaM defends shroud amid Sentinels feud, highlighting roster choice’s impact on team’s humorous image in VALORANT

G2 Captain ShahZam clarifies controversial tweets involving Sentinels and shroud

Former Sentinels VALORANT captain and current G2 captain ShahZam has provided further context on the recent controversy surrounding his tweets. ShahZam clarified that his tweets were solely directed at Sentinels and not intended to offend Canadian streamer shroud.

Some members of the community misinterpreted ShahZam’s discussion with Sentinels CEO Rob Moore on Twitter. The debate escalated when Moore denied promising ShahZam a spot for 2023 if he played with shroud. However, ShahZam later clarified that his tweets were solely targeted at Sentinels and he actually praised shroud for his work ethic and performance at the LCQ.

During his livestream, ShahZam clarified, “My tweet had nothing to do with taking a jab at shroud. He was asked to play, he came in, he wanted to play, and gave his all. He outperformed everyone’s expectations.”

Despite shroud’s contribution, Sentinels, once the dominant VALORANT team in North America, fell short of their goals at the LCQ. ShahZam and his team exited the tournament with a top-six placing, with only one victory against Shopify Rebellion and losses to The Guard and 100 Thieves.

According to ShahZam, it wasn’t appropriate to sign shroud because the community perceived Sentinels as a “meme” team focused more on content creation than qualifying for Champions and ending the year successfully.

ShahZam explained, “Going into LCQ, Sentinels was viewed as a meme. People thought all we did was stream and that we didn’t care about winning. Bringing in shroud, compared to an existing pro, reinforced that narrative. It further enforced the perception that we didn’t care about winning.”

This clarification from ShahZam should put an end to the discussion, unless shroud decides to share his thoughts and feelings regarding the incident. Both ShahZam and Sentinels must leave this controversy behind and focus on achieving their goals for the upcoming 2023 season.
