Sentinels Announce First Addition to VALORANT Roster for 2024

Popular Sentinels Sign New IGL Ahead of VALORANT 2024 Season

Sentinels, one of the most popular teams in VALORANT, has made a strategic move by signing a new in-game leader (IGL) for the upcoming 2024 season. Mouhamed “johnqt” Ouarid, formerly of M80, has officially joined the team, making this his first time playing for a franchised VALORANT team. This signing follows Sentinels’ extension of Tyson “TenZ” Ngo, demonstrating their focus on building a strong roster for the new season.

Addressing Sentinels’ IGL Issue

Signing johnqt addresses a significant issue that Sentinels faced throughout the 2023 season – the need for a skilled IGL who can work effectively with the team. In their inaugural season, Sentinels had Rory “dephh” Jackson as their original IGL, but the team struggled when the meta shifted towards double-controller compositions. This led to a decline in their performance and subsequent roster changes.

With the release of dephh and the addition of Marved, Sentinels faced challenges in finding the right IGL. However, this new signing indicates that the team recognizes the need for change and is focused on picking up a flexible player like johnqt, who has proven his skills with M80 in 2023.

Enhancing Sentinels’ Roster and Role Choice

Johnqt brings valuable abilities to Sentinels, as he can play the sentinel role, as well as controllers or initiators if needed. His leadership and versatility will be crucial for the team in the upcoming season. With talented players like Bryan “pANcada” Luna on their roster, Sentinels won’t have to force him into other roles to fit the meta. Additionally, the return of certain maps in the rotation that favor double-controller setups further strengthens the team’s role choices and overall strategy.

A Promising Roster for 2024

With the addition of johnqt, Sentinels now has a starting roster with a good amount of flexibility:

  • TenZ (duelist/flex)
  • Zekken (duelist)
  • Sacy (initiator)
  • pANcada (controller)
  • Johnqt (sentinel/flex/IGL)

Unlike many other teams in the VCT Americas, Sentinels are making minimal changes to their roster from last year. By keeping four players from the previous season and adding johnqt as their new leader, the team aims to reclaim their position at the top of the region in 2024.
