Semmler suggests that ESL adopts VALORANT’s coaching setup

Professional Commentator Suggests Solution to Coaching Issues in CS:GO Esports

Auguste “Semmler” Massonnat, a well-known professional commentator and host in the CS:GO esports scene, has proposed an interesting solution to the coaching problems that arose during the Regional Major Ranking (RMR) tournaments for the IEM Rio Major.

In Valve-sponsored CS:GO events like the RMRs or the Majors, coaches are not allowed to interact with players unless a tactical timeout is called. These rules have faced criticism in previous RMRs and once again during the IEM Rio Major qualifiers.

Semmler has suggested that ESL, the tournament organizer in partnership with Valve, adopt the coaching setup used in Riot Games’ VALORANT and League of Legends.

On Twitter, Semmler said, “ESL should provide the coaches with offstage setups like they have in VALORANT. Keep a camera on the coaches. Get all of the coach reaction shots that you want without breaking the rules of coaches interacting with players, and the coaches are MICed for the timeouts.”

The esports community quickly shared their thoughts after Semmler’s tweet. Head coach of BIG, Fatih “gob b” Dayik, who has experience in VALORANT, expressed his problems with controlling his emotions during BIG’s matches at the Europe RMR and supported Semmler’s suggestion.

RyanCentral, a VCT caster, also joined the conversation, speculating that the quality of coach impact would increase if CS:GO implemented the same setup as VALORANT.

The IEM Rio Major is scheduled to take place from Oct. 31 to Nov. 13. If ESL and Valve decide to make coaching changes for the $1.25 million tournament, they will need to update the rulebook and inform the 24 participating teams in a short span of time.
