S0m announces retirement from CS:GO, joins NRG for VALORANT career

NRG Sign s0m to VALORANT Roster

NRG has announced the addition of Sam “s0m” Oh to their VALORANT roster.

The news comes after reports from RushB Media revealed NRG’s interest in signing s0m, along with Damian “daps” Steele and head coach Chet Singh. Both daps and Chet have already signed contracts with NRG earlier this week.

Out of the three players, s0m’s transition is the most surprising for the CS:GO scene. The 18-year-old signed his first professional contract with Envy in March 2019 and was later acquired by Gen.G in December 2019.

S0m has had a successful year in CS:GO, winning championships with Gen.G at DreamHack Open Anaheim in February and ESL One: Road to Rio North America in May. However, the team struggled against top-tier teams like Evil Geniuses, FURIA, and Liquid, leading to daps’ departure from the organization last month.

In a Twitter statement, s0m expressed his excitement in joining NRG for VALORANT and thanked his former teammates and staff from Gen.G. According to Twitch’s statistics website SullyGnome, s0m has streamed 51 hours of VALORANT in the past three months, dedicating only 26 hours to CS:GO.

Despite his success in CS:GO, where he achieved a 1.03 rating over 121 maps played with Gen.G in 2020, s0m will need to adapt his playstyle for VALORANT. However, he is currently ranked as Radiant in Riot Games’ FPS.

With both s0m and daps retiring from CS:GO, Gen.G is now left with only three players in their CS:GO roster. On the other hand, NRG may soon complete their VALORANT lineup since the foundation is already in place.
