Rise versus FaZe match in NA LCQ cancelled amid disputes over playing conditions and COVID testing

North American VCT Last Chance Qualifier Paused Amidst COVID-19 Concerns

The second day of the North American VCT Last Chance Qualifier has been paused due to COVID-19 concerns. Rise and FaZe Clan, two participating teams, are facing different circumstances that have resulted in the pause.

Rise player Derrek Ha shared on Twitter that FaZe Clan would be playing remotely from their facility in L.A. because two of their players tested positive for COVID-19. He mentioned that FaZe would be using “NASA” PCs for their matches. Corey Nigra and Andrej “babybay” Francisty, two FaZe players, retweeted and replied to confirm that they had taken another test and received negative results.

In the meantime, only four members of Rise would play on stage, while the fifth member would play from a separate location as a precautionary measure. Ryan “Shanks” Ngo, a Rise player who initially tested positive, has since tested negative but is still required to play from his room.

After these developments, Rise coach Todd “anger” Williams announced on Twitter that the team would be leaving and that the match would be paused. The VALORANT manager for FaZe also confirmed the pause of the event.

As a result, Riot Games, the organizers of the tournament, released an official statement stating that they have decided to pause the competition for the day due to conflicting test results. They are currently evaluating how to safely resume the Last Chance Qualifier.
