Riot’s Vision for a ‘Deceptively Simple’ VALORANT Map in Pearl with Contemplation of a Ground Hole

VALORANT Introduces New Map “Pearl” with a Unique Design Twist

The developers of VALORANT have unveiled their latest map, Pearl, which promises a more straightforward and traditional gaming experience. In a departure from their previous map designs featuring complex elements, Pearl focuses on committed engagements and eliminates features like doors, ascenders, and teleporters.

Originally codenamed “Pitt,” Pearl underwent significant changes during the development process. The initial concept included an open pit in the center of the B site, which posed challenges for agile characters like Jett, Raze, and Neon. However, the map designers decided to opt for a simpler approach that aligned with their vision. The removal of the central pit better served the goals of the map, creating a more balanced and strategic environment.

Pearl offers a classic three-lane design typically seen in CS:GO maps, with longer main entrances to the sites and a smaller middle corridor known as Mid. The map demands committed engagements, relying less on rotation and mobility supports, such as doors, ascenders, or teleporters.

In terms of setting, Pearl is the first map in VALORANT to take place on Omega Earth and is located underwater. The map’s aesthetics draw inspiration from Portugal, featuring architecture, music, and artwork created by Portuguese artists.

Pearl is set to release in-game on June 22, coinciding with the start of Episode Five, Act One.
