Riot’s Plan for VALORANT: No Agent Bans in Consideration

Riot Discusses Pick and Ban System for VALORANT Agents

Choosing your favorite VALORANT agent may become more challenging if Riot Games implements a pick and ban system, according to a blog post by senior game designer Trevor Romleski. Although the developers have considered a draft phase for agents, they are currently hesitant to introduce a ban system.

Promoting Strategy and Skill Development

Riot Games believes that teams will develop specific plays and strategies that heavily rely on certain agents. Banning an agent would disrupt these strategies and discourage practice, which is why Riot is leaning towards not implementing a ban system.

By avoiding a ban phase, Riot is committed to creating a balanced meta where no single agent dominates gameplay. This ensures that no agent-facilitated strategy becomes overpowered or oppressive.

Considerations for Player Comfort and Match Balance

In VALORANT, there are currently 11 unique agents. Banning even just two of them could have a significant impact on a match. Main players of specific agents would be forced to use unfamiliar picks, potentially leading to underperformance.

However, Riot has plans to release approximately six new agents per year, potentially doubling the roster in two years. As the agent pool expands, Riot may consider implementing a ban system to maintain balance.

While Riot Games explores the possibility of a pick and ban system for VALORANT agents, players can continue enjoying the game with their chosen agents and developing their skills.
