Riot Reverses VCT The Guard Ruling: Squad Stays Intact in Search for New Organization

Riot Games Reverses Decision, Allows Former Players of The Guard to Find New Team

Riot Games has reversed its decision to disqualify former players of The Guard from their VALORANT Champions Tour slot, giving the team the opportunity to find a new organization to represent in 2024. This resolution is a positive step for the team and the overall esports scene.

New Opportunity for Former The Guard Players

According to a tweet from the official VALORANT Esports Twitter account on September 1, Riot has ruled that the players and coach of The Guard are allowed to stick together and search for a new organization to join for the 2024 season in the Americas league. Although they have not yet joined a new organization, the team is actively looking for one.

Reconsidering the Decision

After winning the Ascension Americas tournament, The Guard’s organization failed to complete the transition process to the VCT with Riot Games. On August 29, Riot announced that no teams would be promoted from 2023, which resulted in The Guard’s efforts being in vain. This decision caused frustration among fans who believed that the players were being punished for their organization’s problems.

A Fresh Start for The Guard Squad

However, Riot later reconsidered their decision and announced on August 30 that the ex-The Guard squad would have the opportunity to stay together under a new organization. Before officially joining the VCT 2024, this potential new organization would need to gain approval from both Riot and the players.

The players expressed their excitement and gratitude towards Riot and the community for the support they received during this process. They are thankful for the opportunity to stick together and continue pursuing their esports careers.

The community also responded positively to this news, with organizations like Evil Geniuses, M80, and Disguised showing their support.

Now, the squad that earned the Ascension title has the chance to compete in the franchised league for 2024 onwards, as long as they find a new organization. They may have a new logo on their jerseys, but they will continue to amaze audiences as they strive for regional dominance in North America.
