Riot Remains Confident: VALORANT Launch Expected this Summer, Anticipates Beta Challenges

VALORANT Production Update: Shipping Amid COVID-19

VALORANT’s executive producer, Anna Donlon, recently released a dev diary update called “Shipping Amid COVID-19” from her home. In this update, she provides some insight into the challenges faced in shipping a game during these uncertain times.

“First and foremost, the safety and well-being of the VALORANT dev team and our partners around the world is our top priority,” Donlon said. “While we remain optimistic about our summer launch, it is still early, and we continue to encounter new challenges every week.”

Donlon also mentioned that the rollout of VALORANT’s ambitious infrastructure and quality assurance testing have been impacted by the outbreak. All teams involved are currently working remotely from home.

Our initial plan was to bring the VALORANT closed beta to players worldwide as quickly as possible. However, for now, we will focus on launching in the regions where we feel most prepared,” Donlon explained. This means that the United States, Canada, and Europe will have access first, with other regions following “in the months to come.”

Riot asks for patience during the beta testing phase. Donlon expects some bumps along the way due to the current circumstances.

“There may be bugs, and some aspects may not feel as polished as we would like. Additionally, your ping may not be optimal as we continue to build and set up physical data centers,” she warned.

The closed beta for VALORANT officially begins on April 7.
