Riot introduces the latest addition to VALORANT – Meet the new agent Yoru

Yoru, the New Agent in VALORANT’s Roster

Riot Games has officially introduced Yoru as the newest agent in their popular first-person-shooter game, VALORANT. Prior to the official reveal, Yoru was leaked, giving the VALORANT community a sneak peek into his deceptive and chaotic playstyle.

Yoru’s abilities allow him to mimic footsteps, flank enemies through portals, and use a flash ability. His ultimate ability also grants him temporary invisibility and invincibility.

Creating the Concept of “Stealthy Infiltration”

The development team at Riot aimed to capture the concept of “Stealthy Infiltration” while designing Yoru. According to John Goscicki, Riot’s product lead for characters, they wanted to create an agent that revolved around this idea.

Goscicki mentioned that players will often find themselves playing the “solo player” role with Yoru, and they took inspiration from the rebel bad boy archetype for his character design.

Inspiration from Ferrofluid

During the design process, the team drew inspiration from a material called Ferrofluid, which can form into beautiful yet aggressive spikes. They used this material as inspiration for Yoru’s power source.

Yoru is able to “rip holes straight through reality to infiltrate enemy lines unseen” using this power source, as mentioned in his bio.

Yoru will be available for players to use in VALORANT’s Episode Two, Act One starting from Jan. 12.
