Riot introduces map rotation changes in latest VALORANT patch

VALORANT Patch 1.08 Improves Map Rotation System

Fans of VALORANT can now breathe a sigh of relief as back-to-back matches on the same map have been reduced. Riot Games has introduced tweaks to the map rotation system in Patch 1.08 to lower the odds of playing on the same map twice.

According to VALORANT’s latest patch notes, the possible pool of maps has changed from pure random to “pseudo-random.” This means that the game now considers the maps you’ve recently played when loading into a new match.

Previously, players had an equal chance of loading into any of VALORANT’s four available maps. However, the map you played most recently will now have a lower priority, while maps you haven’t played for a while will be prioritized in the random selection process.

This change applies to all game modes, whether it’s competitive, unranked, or an alternative game mode. The map you play on in a given match will be taken into account for the next game you queue up for.

This update is a welcome addition for players, as it improves the chances of experiencing different maps without getting stuck on one map for multiple games. Riot states that players are now “much less likely to play on the same map several games in a row” and have a “better chance of playing on a map they haven’t played recently.”

However, it’s important to note that with only four maps currently available in VALORANT, diversity is limited. There may still be rare instances where players get placed on the same map two games in a row.

Overall, this change is a step in the right direction for VALORANT’s matchmaking system, allowing players to have a smaller chance of repeating maps on a game-by-game basis.
