Riot Increases Ability Costs for Sage, Raze, Phoenix, and Brimstone in VALORANT Patch 0.50

VALORANT Update: Agents Nerfed in Patch 0.50

The latest update for VALORANT brings significant changes to certain agents who have been outperforming their counterparts.

The focus of Patch 0.50 is to adjust the credit costs of abilities for Sage, Raze, Phoenix, and Brimstone. These agents’ abilities have been deemed too powerful, and the developers want to make sure players think more carefully about how they spend their credits.

According to Riot Games, “We felt the credit cost of some abilities did not match the impact those abilities brought to a match, and made adjustments for a more accurate reflection.”

Sage’s Barrier Orb, which already received a nerf in Patch 0.47, is facing another adjustment. Instead of making it easier to destroy, players will now have to spend more credits to purchase it. The cost has increased from 300 to 400 credits. This change prevents players from starting a pistol round with both a Ghost and a Barrier Orb. Since the ice wall could block an entire team from reaching a point, this adjustment aims to create a healthier meta.

Raze and Phoenix’s low-cost abilities are also getting a significant increase. Blast Pack and Curveball will now cost 200 credits each, up from the previous cost of 100 credits. These affordable abilities provided players with a significant advantage over other agents, allowing for powerful usage at a minimal cost.

For example, Raze’s satchel allows players to reposition themselves in any direction, deal damage, and has two charges. On the other hand, Jett’s Updraft, which now costs 100 credits, only allows the agent to move upwards without dealing any damage. This adjustment aims to balance out the meta.

Brimstone’s Incendiary ability is also facing a nerf. Its credit cost has increased from 200 to 300, considering the power of the agent’s smokes.
