Riot Implements Stricter Rank Disparity Rules for Increased Competitive Integrity in VALORANT’s Act III

Changes Coming to Competitive Mode in VALORANT

Boosting your friends in VALORANT is about to become more challenging. In the latest Dev Diaries, VALORANT design lead David “Milkcow” Cole revealed upcoming changes to Competitive mode. Starting in Act III, players will only be able to queue with friends who are within three ranks, instead of the current six.

Tightening the Restrictions

“We want to bring back more competitive integrity to ranked queue and get you focused on winning,” Milkcow stated. As a result, the restrictions on ranked disparity will be reduced from a six to a three-rank difference. This means that a Diamond three player can only queue with a minimum rank of Platinum three and a maximum rank of Immortal three.

Improved Competitive Integrity

Previously, the wide rank disparity in VALORANT’s competitive mode allowed for matches with players who didn’t belong in that rank. This raised concerns about the game’s competitive integrity. However, with the new changes, matchmaking should be more balanced and fair.

Impact on Immortal Rank and Above

According to Milkcow, players in Immortal rank and above will only be impacted by wins and losses, not performance. Additionally, players will have the option to choose their preferred server, although it may not always be guaranteed.

These Act III competitive changes are expected to be implemented next week, and they aim to create a more balanced matchmaking experience in ranked queues.
