Riot implements a significant update to Gekko in VALORANT Patch 6.08

VALORANT Episode Six, Act Three to Introduce Audio Improvements for Gekko’s Wingman

VALORANT’s upcoming update, Patch 6.08, scheduled for April 25, will bring a new competitive frame known as Episode Six, Act Three. The highlight of this update is the incorporation of audio improvements for Gekko’s Wingman, addressing the issue of sound cues going unnoticed during chaotic combat situations.

Riot Games recognized that the audio cues for Wingman planting or defusing the Spike were not distinct enough in frenzied combat scenarios. Therefore, they have made an important change to enhance the audio stats of this adorable creature.

According to VALORANT’s Patch 6.08 notes, the audio for Wingman’s (Q) plant and defuse actions will receive improvements to make the cues more noticeable. This change will help players better understand the enemy Gekko’s plan and prevent unfair “ninja” defuses by Wingman in chaotic rounds.

The introduction of Gekko in Episode Six, Act Two brought excitement among fans, as it resolved the long-standing dilemma of determining who plants the Spike in VALORANT. Wingman’s ability to defuse and plant the Spike has proven valuable in turning seemingly unwinnable rounds in favor of players.

However, the inability to hear Wingman’s actions on the Spike has often played a decisive role in VALORANT rounds. For instance, Wingman can continue defusing the Spike even after Gekko’s death, as long as one of his teammates is alive. The same applies when Wingman is sent to activate the Spike.

In a one-vs-one situation, the Wingman can plant the Spike and control an off-angle, giving Gekko an advantage. If the opponent cannot clearly identify who is planting the Spike—Gekko or his Wingman—it becomes difficult to decipher the strategy. Fortunately, with the audio improvements, players no longer have to worry about missing Wingman’s involvement with the bomb.

Aside from the impactful change to Gekko’s Wingman, VALORANT’s Patch 6.08 will also introduce various adjustments to Killjoy’s kit, the reworked Bind map in the competitive queue, and more.
