Riot explains the mechanics behind VALORANT Twitch drops

Understanding VALORANT’s Twitch Drops: A Closer Look

Riot Games has recently provided further clarification on how VALORANT’s Twitch drops function. In a new blog post, Joe Ziegler and Anna Donlon shed light on some important details that players need to know.

It is now common knowledge that linking your Twitch and Riot accounts is necessary to be eligible for a closed beta through a Twitch drop. However, beyond this, the specifics were unclear—until now.

“Once you’ve watched a couple of hours of VALORANT streams, we start tracking your total stream view time. When you reach this threshold, you become eligible for a Closed Beta entitlement drop,” Riot stated.

Simplifying the process, the more you watch VALORANT streams with drops enabled, the higher your chances of winning. After two hours of viewing, you are automatically entered for the opportunity to receive a drop. From there, the selection process is random.

“To ensure fairness, the selection is completely random. However, we do give more weight to those who have watched more hours of VALORANT streams,” Riot explained. “This weight increases your chances but does not guarantee selection.”

Ziegler and Donlon also addressed the issue of account sellers. Riot is actively investigating these individuals, and anyone found to have purchased an account for beta access may face a ban before the game’s official launch.
