Riot discusses their approach to the new VALORANT agent Chamber, focusing on reimagining the Sentinel role

Riot Games Unveils New VALORANT Agent: Chamber

Riot Games has officially introduced Chamber, a sophisticated French gentleman and weapons designer who will be joining the popular tactical shooter game VALORANT in mid-November with Patch 3.10.

Unlike other sentinels in VALORANT such as Sage, Killjoy, and Cypher, Chamber is a unique sentinel who can hold his own in fights. With his ability called Headhunter, Chamber equips a heavy pistol, and his ultimate, called Tour de France, summons a powerful custom sniper rifle that can eliminate an enemy with just one shot.

Chamber also possesses two other abilities: Trademark and Rendezvous. Trademark allows him to place a trap that scans for enemies, while Rendezvous enables him to set up two teleport anchors. These abilities focus more on gathering information and providing sustainability in a fight, rather than dealing damage. The idea behind Chamber was to create an agent who excels at defending areas by securing kills.

According to John Goscicki, the character producer of VALORANT, the concept for Chamber began with the intention of approaching the Sentinel role differently. Goscicki stated, “As we worked on Chamber, the evolution of someone who can hold down a site with an array of weapons emerged. Between your loadout, his pistol/ult, and gadgets, a player should be able to hold down a location—but it’s up to you to use the tools correctly and creatively.”

Chamber will be the 18th agent to be added to VALORANT, joining the game five months after the introduction of KAY/O. While KAY/O hasn’t been widely popular among professional players, it seems that Chamber has the potential to make a significant impact.

Goscicki further explained the inspiration behind Chamber, saying, “We took a lot of inspiration from the archetype of ‘the gentleman assassin.’ As we dove deeper into creating Chamber, it became clear that his gameplay revolved around highly lethal, pinpoint accuracy. That feeling was the core of his thematic: the idea that the distance of the shot, the breeze in the wind, the type of powder in the ammo, all these fine details must be taken into account to land the perfect hit.”

VALORANT players can expect Chamber and Patch 3.10 to be released in mid-November, while the Episode Three, Act Three battle pass will be available on Nov. 2.
