Riot announces forthcoming nerfs to Classic pistol and rifle running accuracy in VALORANT Episode 2

Hefty Balance Changes Coming to VALORANT with Episode Two

VALORANT players can expect some significant balance changes with the upcoming Episode Two. In a recent livestream, the developers discussed the future of the Classic pistol and the rifle’s run accuracy. While the pistol changes will be implemented along with the new season patch, players may have to wait a bit longer for the rifle nerfs to take effect.

According to senior game designer Sal Garozzo, the Classic pistol will now be more inaccurate when fired mid-air, especially with rapid right-click shots. This change will require players to pace their shots and be more cautious with their aim.

Garozzo mentioned that the developers want the Classic pistol to have its own place in the game and are carefully adjusting its power.

The Classic pistol, being a free weapon provided to all players at the start of each round, was performing too consistently. Its accuracy while right-clicking mid-air made it too powerful for delivering lethal headshot damage. With the upcoming changes, players will need to allow some time between right-click shots and keep their agent grounded to maximize the efficiency of the handgun.

Riot Games is also addressing the controversial issue of rifle running accuracy, particularly with the Phantom. Cloud9’s TenZ previously highlighted the gun’s power during a Twitch broadcast, showcasing how easily players can run and land headshots.

Garozzo confirmed that the developers have plans to decrease rifle accuracy while moving, aiming to create a more balanced and effective range for the weapon. However, there is no specific date for when these nerfs will be implemented.

VALORANT’s Episode Two will introduce a new battle pass, the duelist Yoru, and extensive changes to the game’s ranked system. Episode Two, Act One will begin on Jan. 12.
