Riot aims to create a new esports venture with the VALORANT Ignition Series

Riot Games Partners with Esports Organizations for VALORANT Ignition Series

Riot Games has joined forces with over 20 esports organizations to create special competitive events for VALORANT as part of the newly-introduced Ignition Series.

Whalen Rozelle, senior director of esports at Riot, announced the VALORANT initiative in a blog post today. Rozelle stated that the Ignition Series will allow their top partners to showcase their creativity and help build an esports community that is true to VALORANT.

Each event organizer will host their own Ignition Series tournament, featuring competitive open qualifiers, showmatches, and invitationals. This will cater to both aspiring amateurs and established players.

According to Riot, the series will give players the chance to establish their region’s competitive legacy.

The European G2 Esports Invitational, presented by Red Bull, will kick off the Ignition Series on June 19, followed by the Rage VALORANT Japan Invitational.

In the future, the series will expand to include regions such as North America, Brazil, Latin America, Korea, Japan, South East Asia, Oceania, Europe, Russia, Turkey, and the Middle East.

During VALORANT’s closed beta, which was released in April 2020, over 100 tournaments and invitationals were held. With the game’s official launch in June, Riot aims to grow VALORANT esports worldwide by organizing a more structured schedule of events.

The Ignition Series will run on a weekly basis and highlight select tournaments to discover talented players and increase global recognition for top VALORANT teams.
