VALORANT Rising Star Jinggg to Depart from Paper Rex at the End of the Year

After an impressive performance in the 2023 VCT circuit, VALORANT rising star Wang “Jinggg” Jing Jie may be leaving Paper Rex. According to an interview with head coach Alexandre “alecks” Sallé on Japanese gaming outlet Round Up Gamers, Jinggg will be stepping away from the organization at the end of the year, with Champions 2023 being his final event.

In the interview, alecks stated that Jinggg will not be playing professionally next year due to the 20-year-old’s mandatory military service in Singapore, which requires him to join for two years.

Alecks describes Paper Rex as a fun-loving and confident squad who understand that losing is a necessary step towards success. However, he still has the desire to win Champions for various reasons, including Jinggg’s impending retirement.

“Even if you lose, it’s part of the game,” Alecks said in the interview. “But the truth is, I want to bring back my first Champions trophy to the Pacific. Jinggg will be in the military next year, and this will be his last competition, so I want to lift the trophy with him.”

Jinggg has been one of the top players in the world, propelling Paper Rex to new heights throughout 2023. Whether it was in the Pacific League, Masters Tokyo, or at Champions, Jinggg has showcased fearless engagements and exceptional mechanical skills.

For instance, at Champions, he currently leads his team in average combat score and average damage per round, according to VLR.gg. At Masters Tokyo, he also had one of the highest ACS and ADR in the event, finishing in third place alongside his squad behind Evil Geniuses and Fnatic.

If Jinggg does decide to retire from professional VALORANT, it would be a significant loss for the global scene. Despite his relatively short time in the league, he has already demonstrated an incredible amount of potential and star power that could continue to shine in the international scene for years to come.
