Riot Games Unveils VALORANT: A New Competitive FPS Game

Riot Games has finally revealed its highly-anticipated competitive first-person shooter game, VALORANT (previously known as Project A).

A Unique Blend of Gameplay and Skills

VALORANT draws inspiration from popular FPS games like Counter-Strike and Overwatch, combining round-based gameplay and unique characters with precision shooter skills. The goal is to create a game that stands out in the genre.

“Set on a near-future Earth, in VALORANT, you choose from a diverse cast of agents, each representing a real-world location and culture,” Riot Games describes. “Each agent possesses tactical abilities that can be used for information gathering, fortifying locations, scouting for enemy intel, breaching defensive sites, controlling territory, and more. These abilities open up unique strategic opportunities for players to take precise shots.”

Platform Availability

Riot Games has announced that VALORANT will be exclusively available for PC. While this may disappoint console players, Riot’s vision for the game aligns best with the PC platform.

The company’s focus for VALORANT is to create a highly competitive, fair, and smooth FPS experience. Riot Games promises 128-tick servers with less than 35ms ping for at least 70% of players worldwide, which is an ambitious goal achievable with the right PC infrastructure.

However, this does not mean that VALORANT will never be released on consoles. It just won’t be available on them initially.

Release Date and Price

VALORANT is set to launch in summer 2020 and will be free-to-play.
