Patch 4.08 introduces Sova nerfs and new abilities to VALORANT

Sova Nerfs Coming to Valorant in Patch 4.08

Some Sova nerfs are on the way to VALORANT in the upcoming Patch 4.08. Early access footage released by professional players reveals the changes.

G2 content creator Jakub “Lothar” Szygulski and Sova main for Alliance and Fnatic (stand-in) Enzo “Fea” Mestari shared footage showing that Sova’s Owl Drone and Shock Bolt will both receive nerfs in the new patch.

According to reports, Sova’s Shock Bolt will now deal reduced damage, down to 75 points from 90. Additionally, Sova’s Owl Drone will have a shorter duration of eight seconds instead of ten, and when it tags an enemy, the revealed enemy will only flash twice instead of three times. These changes will require players to hit an enemy with two maximum damage Shock Bolts to eliminate them, making his post-plant lineups less effective.

Sova has previously received minor nerfs, such as a slight price increase to Owl Drone, Shock Bolt, and Hunter’s Fury, as well as a cooldown timer increase to the Recon Bolt. These changes were implemented in Patch 3.0.

Sova has been a popular pick in competitive and pro play throughout VALORANT’s existence. According to THESPIKE.GG, Sova has the highest all-time pick rate in recorded competitive matches at 74.75 percent. Jett is the only other agent with a pick rate above 70 percent. The next highest is Omen at only 40.70 percent.

It’s no surprise that both of the most frequently selected agents, Sova and Jett, are receiving nerfs in Patch 4.08. Jett will receive a nerf to her Tailwind ability, reducing her elusiveness.
