OpTic’s Future in VALORANT Uncertain as Contracts Near Expiration

The Future of OpTic Gaming’s VALORANT Team Hangs in the Balance

OpTic Gaming, the top VALORANT team in North America, may face an uncertain future as two key members’ contracts are set to expire within the next two months, according to insiders familiar with the situation.

Both Victor Wong and Austin “crashies” Roberts will need new contracts after the VCT Champions tournament in September to remain on the OpTic roster. Failure to secure new contracts could result in OpTic losing both players.

The rest of the OpTic players have contracts that expire next year or beyond, and the team is keen to retain its current roster in the upcoming year.

To continue competing at the highest level, OpTic will need to qualify for partnership in the Americas league next year. The team will receive confirmation from tournament hosts and VALORANT developers Riot Games before Champions if they have been selected to join the league.

If OpTic is not chosen for the Americas league in 2023, the players’ futures will be uncertain following this year’s Champions.

OpTic Gaming has solidified its position as the best team in North America through impressive performances on the international stage. They clinched first place at VCT 2022: Stage 1 Masters in Reykjavík, Iceland, in April. In the following Stage 2 Masters in Copenhagen, Denmark, OpTic finished in third place. The team was defeated by eventual tournament victors FunPlus Phoenix in the lower bracket final, with FPX going on to win against Paper Rex in the grand final.
