OpTic VCT rejection leads to two top VALORANT players becoming free agents

North American Players Victor Wong and Austin “crashies” Roberts Become Unrestricted Free Agents

North American players Victor Wong and Austin “crashies” Roberts are now unrestricted free agents in the world of VALORANT. This comes after OpTic Gaming failed to secure a spot in the Americas’ partnership league. As a result, Wong and Roberts are now free to join another team.

Missed Opportunity for OpTic Gaming

OpTic Gaming’s failure to secure a spot in the Americas league is surprising given the success of Pujan “FNS” Mehta, Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker, Jimmy “Marved” Nguyen, Victor, and crashies under Envy in 2021 and OpTic in 2022. Unfortunately, OpTic did not make the cut despite the accomplishments of these talented players.

Wong and Roberts had a successful run with Envy, securing a second-place finish at VCT Masters Three Berlin in September 2021. However, their performance truly soared in 2022 after Envy rebranded to OpTic. Under the Green Wall banner, they emerged as champions at VCT Masters One Reykjavík in April, finished third at VCT Masters Two Copenhagen in July, and were runners-up at VALORANT Champions this month.

The news of Wong and Roberts becoming unrestricted free agents aligns with a report from in July 2022, which raised doubts about OpTic’s long-term future in VALORANT due to upcoming contract expirations.

Despite the concerns surrounding OpTic’s future, the organization’s exclusion from the partnership program for 2023 announced by Riot this week was a significant blow. Only Sentinels, Cloud9, NRG, Evil Geniuses, and 100 Thieves were accepted into the program.

It remains uncertain whether Wong and Roberts will actively seek individual offers or wait for an organization to sign them along with yay, Marved, and FNS from OpTic.
