New roster exits, The Nation flourishes, and contenders stumble in Challengers qualifier

VALORANT Challengers North America Open Qualifier: Upsets and Victories

The VALORANT Challengers North America open qualifier saw several surprising outcomes as the competition unfolded. Notable teams faced unexpected defeats in the early stages, while others emerged victorious and secured their spots in the upper quarterfinals.

Version1, a team with a star-studded female roster, faced a disappointing defeat in the first round of the lower bracket. Led by former Cloud9 White players Alexis Guarrasi and Melanie “meL” Capone, Version1 was defeated by ‘Rat Attack.’

On the other hand, ‘The Nation’ displayed a stellar performance and secured a spot in the upper quarterfinals after a convincing 2-0 victory over ‘Dark Ratio,’ a strong contender in the qualifier.

As a result of their loss, Dark Ratio will now face off against ‘Division Zero’ in the second round of the lower bracket later tonight.

‘The Nation’ consists of former CS:GO Major winner Jake “Stewie2k” Yip, former TSM star Matthew “WARDELL” Yu, Braxton “brax” Pierce, Daniel “Rossy” Abedrabbo, and Tanner “TiGG” Spanu. Currently, they have only lost one map out of the five games played.

On the other side of the bracket, streamer Disguised Toast’s roster is set to face NSIC in the upper quarterfinals. While DSG managed to overcome several unsigned rosters, tougher opponents lie ahead in the tournament.

Oxygen Esports, similar to ‘The Nation,’ also made it to the upper quarterfinals with only one map loss.

The Challengers open qualifier will continue later tonight, with the top four teams securing their spots in the first split of Challengers one, which begins in February.
