New Report: NA LCQ Introduces Single-Elimination Format for Initial 2 Rounds

Riot Games Modifies Bracket Format for VCT North American Last Chance Qualifier

A Riot Games representative has announced that the bracket format for the VCT North American Last Chance Qualifier has been altered. According to VLR.gg, both the play-in round and the first round of the upper bracket will now be single-elimination. However, once teams reach the upper bracket semifinals, the format will revert back to double-elimination. If the matches proceed as planned, six out of the ten competing teams will be eliminated on the first day of the offline LAN event.

Concerns Raised by Players

Several players have expressed their dissatisfaction with the modified bracket format. Hiko from 100 Thieves tweeted that he isn’t a fan of the change, while nitr0 went further to say that no LAN event should be single-elimination. Other players, including Cloud9’s vanity and leaf, also voiced their displeasure on Twitter.

Australian Teams Upset with the Change

The Australian players representing ORDER and Chiefs, the two Oceanic teams, are particularly upset with the modified format. ORDER coach Oliver “DickStacy” Tierney revealed that these teams had to endure a 16-hour flight and undergo 21 days of quarantine just for the chance to compete in a single best-of-three series on LAN.

Unofficial Announcement and Scheduled Event

While the change to the bracket format has not yet been officially announced, VLR.gg has already updated the NA LCQ page with the modified bracket. The LAN event is still scheduled to take place from October 12 onwards.
