NA VCT 2022 Team of the Week: Week 3, Challengers One

The NA VCT Challenger One main event standings are starting to separate the contenders from the rest after a week of intense VALORANT action. Three teams—Cloud9, Version1, and The Guard—have already secured spots in the playoffs with their 3-0 records. As a result, players from these teams have earned spots in this week’s Team of the Week honors.

In addition, two players have achieved back-to-back TOTW placements, demonstrating a consistently high level of play over multiple matches.

Here is the Team of the Week for NA VCT Challengers One, week three.

Initiator: The Guard’s trent

Over the past year, trent tried to get an opportunity to try out with various VALORANT managers, coaches, and players by reaching out to them via DMs. Now, he’s on The Guard roster, which is undefeated in VCT play with a 3-0 record. This is his second consecutive appearance in the NA VCT Team of the Week.

Trent and The Guard’s most impressive win yet was against a highly rated XSET team, with a 2-1 victory and a dominant 13-3 performance on Fracture to close out the series. Trent averaged over 20 kills per map and had the highest ACS across a series this week. Maybe someone should have taken his messages more seriously.

Controller: Knights’ skuba

The Knights earned a much-needed win in week three, improving their record to 1-2 and giving themselves a chance to make it to the playoffs after a decisive win against Rise. While the entire Knights roster played well, Logan “skuba” Jenkins stood out and secured the controller spot in this week’s list.

Skuba’s standout performance came on Ascent, showcasing one of the last great Astra performances before her nerfs. He nearly achieved a 2.00 K/D ratio with 27 kills, 14 deaths, and nine assists. He ended the map with an impressive 4K as well.

Sentinel: Cloud9’s mitch

Although Chamber has become a popular pick for the sentinel role, Killjoy still brings value to the team. Cloud9’s mitch is a player who can effectively fulfill both roles, as demonstrated in C9’s series win against Evil Geniuses.

Mitch won eight out of his nine opening duels, including a perfect four-for-four performance with Chamber on Breeze. He had the highest K/D ratio of any player in the series at 1.80, with 54 kills and 30 deaths. He performed consistently well on each map, with 18 kills on both.

Duelist: Cloud9’s leaf

For the third week in a row, two players from the same team have earned spots on the Team of the Week list. Cloud9 secures a second spot in the duelist role, thanks to leaf’s impressive performance as Jett.

Leaf also achieved 54 kills across the three-map series. Although his first-blood win percentage was not as high, he engaged in more than twice as many opening duels. Leaf dealt more damage per round, thanks to numerous high-impact rounds, including multiple 3Ks and 4Ks.

Flex: Version1’s penny

Penny continues Version1’s streak of representation in the Team of the Week, securing his second consecutive appearance as the flex player. V1 faced a tough challenge against NRG, with all three maps decided by a two-round difference. Penny played a crucial role in securing important rounds for his team.

After a subpar performance on Haven as Jett, penny switched to Chamber for Fracture and contributed 26 kills, including the final kills in the last two rounds, which led to a 13-11 victory. However, he truly shined on Icebox, returning to Jett and earning 28 kills with 13 deaths. He executed a spectacular ace and secured a series-clinching triple during a two-vs-four retake in the final round.

With these standout players leading the way, the NA VCT Challenger One main event playoffs are shaping up to be highly competitive.
