Master the Sova agent in VALORANT with these tips and tricks

Riot Games’ Newest Game, VALORANT, is Gaining Popularity on Twitch

VALORANT, the latest first-person shooter (FPS) game developed by Riot Games, is creating a buzz on Twitch.

If you’re new to FPS games, starting with Sova as one of your free agents is a great choice. Sova excels in gathering valuable information to weaken enemy forces before they reach you.

Sova’s Abilities

Sova’s Q-ability is the Shock Bolt, which you can purchase two charges of during each round’s buying phase. It costs 100 Creds per charge. Holding down the left-click determines the distance the bolt travels, while right-clicking allows you to control bounce up to two times.

The Shock Bolt can deal significant damage in tight corridors, but it is not lethal to healthy opponents. It is best used to finish off wounded enemies or soften up full-health targets for an easier takedown.

Sova’s E is the Recon Bolt. Similar to the Shock Bolt, you can control the distance and bounce by using left-click and right-click, respectively. Once the arrow lands, it emits a long-range sonar that reveals enemies within its line of sight.

The Recon Bolt recharges after a 35-second cooldown, so if you use it early in a round, you might be able to use it again for last-minute information.

While the Recon Bolt provides valuable information, it can be destroyed by enemies. Act quickly to gather the information you need before it’s too late.

Sova’s C-ability is the Owl Drone. You can purchase one charge for 300 Creds in the shop each round. When deployed, Sova gains full vision of the Drone’s point of view, and the Drone can reveal any enemy hit by its shot for a couple of seconds.

Remember that you cannot move while the Drone is deployed, so ensure your safety beforehand. Similar to the Recon Bolt, the Drone can be destroyed by enemies, so make the most of the time it’s gathering intel.

Sova’s Ultimate ability is Hunter’s Fury. With this ability, Sova can fire up to three long-range shots that can penetrate walls for a short time period. However, precise aim is crucial to secure kills.

To improve your arrow shots, consider the map’s elevation since different maps have varying levels. The mini-map also provides valuable intel on where to shoot the arrows and potential enemy locations.

Effective Offensive Tactics

Even if you’re not carrying the Spike, use your Drone early in each round to clear a path for your team. This knowledge allows your team to know if there are enemies above, below, or around corners. If the enemies shoot your Drone, take advantage of the distraction and follow up with an attack.

After using your Drone, use the Recon Bolt when the map is quiet. It can give you an edge by revealing enemy positions or ruling out certain areas.

Effective Defensive Tactics

Sova’s information-gathering abilities allow you to effectively hold a bombsite on your own while your team protects other areas. Use your Owl Drones and Recon Arrows to detect multiple enemies rushing an area. Call for your team’s rotation to contest them.

When you know enemies are approaching to place or disarm the Spike, use your Hunter’s Fury Ultimate ability as a zone denial tool. Your shots may be dodged, but it buys valuable time for your team or a Spike to detonate.

Closing Thoughts for Sova

In early rounds with limited Creds, prioritize having at least your Owl Drone, one charge of the Shock Bolt, and some form of light armor. This makes you a potent early skirmisher while providing useful utility and information to your team.

During downtime, practice finding creative angles for your Shock and Recon Arrows in custom matches. While you may not hit those angles every time in intense moments, having the knowledge can surprise your enemies during slower moments.

However, prioritize hitting quick Shock or Recon arrows since those are the ones that require effective aim.

Lastly, spend time improving your communication skills to provide more articulate calls. The advanced knowledge from your intel abilities can give your team an advantage over the enemy.
