M80 VALORANT creates an opportunity for a former G2 player to achieve back-to-back Ascension victory

M80’s VALORANT Team Makes Roster Changes

Just one match into the second split of the North American Challengers 2024 season, M80’s VALORANT team has made a major roster move, swapping out one veteran for another.

NeT steps in for M80

The organization stated today that Nicholas “nitr0” Cannella will leave the active M80 VALORANT roster, and former G2 player Michael “neT” Bernet, who was removed off the roster in April, will replace him.

Return to the Challengers Scene

NeT returns to the Challengers stage, joining the roster core that he and his previous colleagues vanquished at Ascension last season. Prior to joining G2, neT and his former teammates fought as The Guard in Challengers 2023, defeating M80 at the Ascension finals in Brazil to earn a two-year promotion to VCT Americas.

Despite securing a seat in VCT Americas, neT and company nearly missed out on the top-tier international competition due to The Guard organization’s exit from esports, which prevented the players from playing. Following strong community outcry, Riot relented and allowed the players to pick a new sponsorship organization, finally settling on G2 after receiving proposals from over a dozen potential suitors.

After a disappointing start in VCT 2024, G2 dropped neT and signed frosty, a former Evil Geniuses reserve player. The move paid off, as G2 went on a run through the stage one playoffs and advanced to Masters Shanghai. The squad is undefeated in Shanghai, finishing in the top three.

M80 has also had a poor start, given the expectations placed on the squad after signing both nitr0 and BcJ in the summer, coming fourth in both stage one and the Mid Season Cup. The squad began stage two with a narrow 2-0 loss to Oxygen and will face Blinn Esports later evening.
