M80 CEO boldly responds to The Guard after VCL loss: ‘We stay loyal to our team’

Ceo of M80 Fires Back at The Guard After Defeat in Valorant Challengers

Last night, the CEO of North American esports organization M80 responded to The Guard following his team’s loss in the VALORANT Challengers tournament.

The Beef Spills Over from the Server

The rivalry between two top Challengers teams didn’t end on the battlefield. After defeating M80 2-0 in their Group B match, The Guard took a light-hearted jab at their opponents. They mocked M80 for allegedly paying for a blue checkmark, which can be obtained through a Twitter Blue subscription.

M80 CEO Claps Back

M80’s CEO, Marco Marco Mereu, quickly fired back at The Guard’s remarks. He reminded them that M80 had to let go of most of its employees and operate with a skeleton crew just to keep The Guard running smoothly.

“Unlike you, we didn’t fire our entire company and leave them out to dry,” Mereu said.

The Guard Strikes Back

In response, The Guard shared a screenshot showing that Mereu himself had purchased a blue checkmark through Twitter Blue.

The Guard’s Future

Despite facing significant layoffs, The Guard’s VALORANT team will continue operating for now. The company recently let go of its social, content, talent, and creative teams, but a small group of employees, including a social media manager, still remain. The Guard’s Overwatch League and Call of Duty teams, the Los Angeles Gladiators and Los Angeles Guerillas, are reported to be staying with the organization until a buyer is found.
