Sentinels Face Challenges in VCT Americas
The tension surrounding Sentinels is on the rise after a series of setbacks. Despite a hand injury, TenZ, the team’s star duelist, played against Leviatán, but they ultimately lost the series, leading to the sudden departure of head coach Don “SyykoNT” Muir just three games into VCT Americas.
TenZ received criticism from fans for being the lowest-rated player in the series against Leviatán. In response, Kyedae, TenZ’s girlfriend and a popular streamer, appealed for empathy during a difficult period for TenZ and her own battle against cancer.
Kyedae tweeted, “Please be understanding, Tyson HAD to play [versus Leviatán]. I’m sure if he had the choice, he would have sat out. He played with a joint infection and just tested positive for Covid this morning. He’s only human. And I know I’m going to get attacked in the comments for this tweet. I do not care. I just feel constantly hopeless for the situation I’m in, and if I could, I would have hidden the fact that I have cancer from everyone, including him, so he could continue to fully focus.”
Despite playing with a hand infection, TenZ had a challenging performance against Leviatán, finishing with a 0.72 rating, 149 ACS, and a -14 K/D, according to VLR.gg’s statistics. This follows his underwhelming performance against NRG on April 9, where Sentinels were heavily defeated on Icebox.
The reason TenZ continues to play despite Kyedae’s battle with leukemia and his injury is likely because Sentinels’ sixth player, Marved, is currently dealing with visa issues. Although some fans blame TenZ for recent losses, many understand the challenges he is facing personally.
This Friday, Sentinels will face LOUD in VCT Americas, aiming to secure their second victory and achieve a 2-2 record. Former strategic coach Adam Kaplan has been promoted to head coach, indicating potential changes to Sentinels’ strategies and possible player swaps if Marved’s visa issues are resolved.
