TenZ: A Problem for Sentinels in 2024?
TenZ is considered to be VALORANT’s biggest star, with his talent often unparalleled in the competitive scene. However, there are debates about whether he can still reach his peak performance and help carry a team to an international championship in 2024.
In a recent video, caster and analyst Josh “Sideshow” Wilkinson raised the question of whether TenZ is a “problem for Sentinels” and if he can be “fixed” for the upcoming year. Although it may seem controversial to suggest that one of the best duelists in the world is a problem, Sentinels’ recent performance raises concerns about TenZ’s role in the team.
Sideshow’s arguments are hard to ignore, particularly his focus on TenZ’s change in role. When TenZ first started his VALORANT career as a duelist, circumstances have now forced him to adapt and flex onto different heroes. It appears that he will now be taking on the role of a flex player instead of a duelist in the 2024 season.
Although TenZ’s Jett performance remains exceptional, Sideshow points out that his overall improvement has been slower compared to other players. Sentinels are still trying to harness his untapped potential, especially considering what he showed at the Stage Two Masters in 2021. However, aspects such as his positioning as a duelist and agent flexibility still require further development to match the level of other top players, like Max “Demon1” Mazanov or Alexander “jawgemo” Mor.
Many TenZ fans attribute Sentinels’ tumultuous years in 2022 and 2023 as reasons for his underwhelming performance, and they have valid points. Multiple changes in leadership, language barriers with new players, and constant roster swaps could undoubtedly affect his gameplay. However, these external factors alone cannot explain why TenZ falls behind some of the best players in the world.
In his analysis, Sideshow highlights both moments of brilliance and shortcomings from TenZ in the 2023 season. Rectifying these issues is possible, but finding the right coach to guide his development is crucial. The wrong choice of coach could hinder his growth and potentially prevent TenZ from reaching his full potential in VALORANT.
