Iso’s shield can protect you from the explosive Spike in VALORANT—if you’re fortunate.

VALORANT’s New Duelist Iso Can Absorb Spike Damage with Shield Ability

VALORANT’s latest duelist, Iso, has a unique ability called Double Tap shield. It not only shields him from enemy attacks but also has the unexpected advantage of absorbing damage from the spike explosion. This little-known feature was revealed in a clip on Twitter, where an Iso player with the shield active survived a detonation and saved their weapons.

How Iso’s Shield Saves Players from Spike Explosion

Iso’s Double Tap shield can absorb some of the damage from the VALORANT spike explosion. This can potentially save players from what should be certain death. In clutch scenarios, where players need to stay within the spike blast radius to secure the round win, Iso’s shield can be a gamechanger. Even if caught in the explosion, players can survive and keep their weapons.

Iso’s Shield: A Feature or a Bug?

When the VALORANT player in the Twitter clip survived the spike explosion, many wondered how it was possible. Normally, the spike would instantly eliminate anyone within range. However, Iso’s ability specifically states that it absorbs “one instance of damage from any source.” Since the spike qualifies as a source of damage, players can escape the spike’s damage with Iso’s shield.

It’s important to note that being right beside the spike when it detonates will still be fatal, as the spike damage is instant and substantial. It can bypass shields, temporary health, and actual health, causing severe damage. However, if the damage instance is limited to the spike’s initial detonation, Iso’s shield can save players from it.

Whether Riot considers this a bug or a valid strategy remains to be seen. Players can potentially use Iso’s Double Tap ability to land a shot and escape from a spike explosion, using the shield as a life raft. It may be a small play, but it can have a significant impact on the outcome of a match.
