Insights Into the Creative Process Behind VALORANT’s Sentinels of Light and Ruination Skins Unveiled by Developers

VALORANT’s Premium Content Team Reveals the Creation Process Behind Sentinels of Light and Ruination Skins

In a recent blog post, VALORANT’s premium content team shared insights into the development of the Sentinels of Light and Ruination skins. The team, led by weapon artist Chris Stone, discussed how the collaboration with League of Legends allowed them to introduce new materials for the skins.

As part of Riot Games’ summer event, which spans across multiple titles including VALORANT, League of Legends, and Legends of Runeterra, the Sentinels of Light and Ruination skins provide crossover excitement for fans. While VALORANT exists in a different fictional universe than League of Legends, the weapon designers aimed to appeal to players of both games.

To capture the essence of the Black Mist effect that dominates Runeterra, Stone worked closely with the team’s FX artist to incorporate the signature shapes into VALORANT weapons without compromising their competitive integrity.

The team utilized the FX artist’s textures to create the Ruination skins, which feature the flowing Black Mist effect within crystals. They also collaborated on the smoke trails for the skins, ensuring they matched the intensity of the custom material.

The Sentinels of Light skins focus on the Relic Stones, which serve as a defense against the Black Mist. These skins are equipped with Relic Stones that can contain the Black Mist, echoing the mechanics of the League of Legends universe.

This collaborative and meticulous design process resulted in two outstanding skin bundles that enhance the VALORANT experience and thrill League of Legends fans.
