Gen.G signs former T1 star as they rebuild their VALORANT roster

Gen.G Signs Byeon “Munchkin” Sang-beom as its Third Offseason Acquisition

Gen.G, the esports organization, has announced the acquisition of Byeon “Munchkin” Sang-beom for its VALORANT team. This marks the team’s third signing of the offseason. Munchkin, who previously played for T1, will join Gen.G’s 2024 roster as their fourth player.

Munchkin’s Journey to Gen.G

Munchkin began his VALORANT career with Cloud9 Korea before joining Crazy Raccoon. His exceptional performance helped Crazy Raccoon qualify for international play. In the middle of the 2022 season, he joined T1, where he showcased his skills as a fantastic role player. With his move to Gen.G, Munchkin now joins a new Pacific League team, uniting with other highly-rated Korean talents.

Munchkin’s Impact on T1’s VALORANT Team

Munchkin, alongside former teammates Lee “Carpe” Jae-hyeok and Ha “Sayaplayer” Jung-woo, transitioned from being successful Overwatch League hitscan players to thriving in the VALORANT esports scene. While Carpe is the newest addition to the VALORANT pro scene, Munchkin proved his worth as a versatile role player, specializing in Killjoy and Skye to complement the explosive talent of Sayaplayer.

Stats and International Performance

Statistically, Munchkin consistently performed at a high level. In the Pacific League, he ranked eighth in kill/death ratio, ninth in clutch percentage, and thirteenth in average damage per round among players who played a minimum of 40 rounds. Additionally, Munchkin stood out when competing against teams outside of the Pacific region, often being the best or second-best player on the roster.

Gen.G’s Promising Roster

With Munchkin joining Gen.G, the organization has made several other high-potential signings, including Kim “Lakia” Jong-min and Kim “t3xture” Na-ra. While Gen.G is still in search of a fifth player to complete its roster, Munchkin’s addition fills a critical role for the team. Fans eagerly await the announcement of the controller player who will join the popular Pacific squad.
