Gen.G asserts dominance in thrilling VCT victory over T1, heralding a fresh chapter in their rivalry

An Exciting Showdown between T1 and Gen.G in VALORANT VCT Pacific

The highly anticipated VALORANT rivalry kicked off in VCT Pacific with a thrilling match between T1 and Gen.G, two major names in the esports industry.

Gen.G had high expectations going into the Pacific League season. While they weren’t expected to be Korea’s superstar team, many believed they could secure the second-place spot, especially after their impressive performance at LOCK//IN, the 2023 VCT opening tournament.

Despite T1’s star-studded roster, they struggled against the coordination of Gen.G. Gen.G’s cohesion has noticeably improved since their debut in February, leading them to secure a convincing 2-0 victory in Seoul.

The teams started off on Ascent, choosing the same composition, which has become standard in Asia. This mirrored composition allowed for direct player comparisons between the two teams. The battle between Sayaplayer and Meteor on Jett was particularly noteworthy.

T1 had a strong start by winning the pistol round, but they faltered against Gen.G’s weaker weapons and superior strategy. Another notable matchup was the KAY/O battle between Carpe and GodDead.

GodDead showcased his expertise in the VCT and displayed great skill with KAY/O’s utility. While Carpe had decent utility usage, GodDead’s impact was on another level.

Sayaplayer and Meteor, both Jett players, displayed exceptional skills. Despite Sayaplayer’s excellent aim and reaction times, Meteor’s incredible play on the tenth round of Ascent seemed unstoppable.

Gen.G continued their dominance on Haven, with T1 struggling to find their footing. Despite a rough start, T1 managed to narrow the gap, but Gen.G held their ground and didn’t allow T1 to win a single round.

Haven ended swiftly, with Gen.G securing another 13-5 victory.

This dominant performance by Gen.G solidifies the ranking of the three Korean teams in the VCT. DRX remains at the top, followed by Gen.G and T1. Although Gen.G has yet to face off against DRX directly, their outstanding international performances establish them as the best in the region.

Gen.G’s true test will come next week when they face DRX for the first time. They might be the only team in the Pacific League capable of challenging DRX’s perfect map record, especially after both Paper Rex and ZETA Division fell 2-0 to them.

Compared to their performance at LOCK//IN in São Paulo, Gen.G has shown improved coordination. The addition of Sylvan and GodDead to the roster has had a significant impact, and the team’s game plan and leadership seem more solid.

Gen.G’s match against DRX is scheduled for April 22 at 7 AM CT.
