Gambit leads Team Liquid to victory in EMEA VCT 2022 opening match

Gambit Dominates Team Liquid in EMEA VCT Challengers One

Gambit continued their winning streak from 2021 with an impressive victory over Team Liquid in the EMEA VCT Challengers One main event. Timofey “Chronicle” Khromov delivered an outstanding performance with Viper and Chamber, securing 48 kills throughout the series.

Gambit Secures Map One Victory

Despite a technical pause at the start, Gambit showcased their dominance on Icebox. Led by Chronicle and d3ffo, they established a significant lead with a strong attacking side. Team Liquid attempted a comeback on their own attacking side without a Jett in play. However, a heroic two-vs-four retake from Sheydos and Chronicle sealed the victory for Gambit, winning map one 13-9.

Chronicle Shines on Breeze

Chronicle’s exceptional performance continued on Breeze, where he started with an ace in the second round. His efforts reversed Team Liquid’s momentum from the pistol round. With 16 kills in the first half, Chronicle led Gambit to only a 7-5 deficit after defending their own map pick. Gambit quickly caught up, tying the score at 8-8. Chronicle’s strategic use of Chamber proved crucial in Gambit’s 13-8 win on Breeze.

A Rematch of EMEA Stage Three Challengers Playoffs

Today’s match was a rematch of the intense encounter between Gambit and Team Liquid in the EMEA Stage Three Challengers Playoffs. While Liquid initially claimed a narrow victory on Split, they experienced devastating losses on Bind and Icebox. Following these defeats, Liquid made roster changes by benching Kryptix and signing Nivera. They went on an undefeated run but eventually fell to Acend in the Champions playoffs.

Liquid will have a chance to bounce back against Na’Vi on Feb. 20, while Gambit will face FunPlus Phoenix on Feb. 18.
