Gambit has secured their spot in the VCT Champions playoffs after a thrilling three-map series against Team Vikings. The reigning champions of Masters Berlin showed resilience and determination as they made an incredible comeback win in overtime on Icebox. Despite shaky starts in their matches against Team Secret and Vikings, Gambit can now relax and re-focus before the quarterfinals begin on Wednesday.
Gambit’s Slow Start on Split
Just like in their series against Team Secret, Gambit had a slow start on their map pick of Split. Team Vikings took an early 4-0 lead, but Gambit’s player Chronicle delivered an impressive clutch as Killjoy, jumpstarting the momentum for Gambit. They went on to dominate the attack rounds, winning six in a row and turning the tables to take a 7-5 lead at halftime.
Vikings Fight Back on Bind
In the second map, Vikings once again took an early lead on their attack side, this time reaching a 5-0 advantage. Gambit managed to respond with a round win, but Vikings continued to hold the momentum. A standout performance from Sacy and a saadhak ace increased Vikings’ lead to 8-4 at halftime.
Dramatic Overtime Win on Icebox
With the series tied, the teams headed to the decisive map of Icebox. Vikings took an early 3-0 lead, but Gambit managed to secure a round win on their first buy round. The match was intense, with both teams fighting for every round. In the end, Gambit mounted an impressive comeback, winning seven consecutive rounds to force overtime. In overtime, Gambit continued their strong performance and secured a 14-12 victory with an outstanding play from Chronicle and Sheydos.
Gambit’s victory means they will join Fnatic in the playoffs as one of the top seeds. They will await the winner of the match between Sentinels and Liquid. Vikings still have a chance to advance and will face either Team Secret or Crazy Raccoon in the Group C decider.
