Despite being denied partnership with Riot Games for the Americas international league next year, G2 Esports, a European organization, is not giving up on the VALORANT scene, according to multiple sources.

G2 Signs Version1 Coach to Lead Rebuild for VCT Challengers Circuit

G2 has brought on board Ian “Immi” Harding, the coach of Version1, to lead the team’s rebuild and compete in the VCT Challengers circuit next year. The Challengers circuit is expected to kick off before the international circuit starts, with tournaments potentially taking place towards the end of 2022, as per reliable sources.

Partnership Snub Stemmed from Controversy Surrounding Former CEO

G2 was denied a partnership slot in the Americas international league next year due to the controversy involving their former CEO, Carlos Rodríguez. Rodríguez faced backlash after socializing with Andrew Tate, a celebrity known for expressing misogynistic views, and posting a video of their interaction on his personal Twitter account.

According to The Washington Post, G2 had plans to acquire the former XSET roster if they were not accepted into the partnership league.

Rodríguez faced sanctions from Riot Games in League of Legends for engaging in activities detrimental to the best interest of the League and Riot Games. He was temporarily suspended until November 13, 2022.

Following these events, Rodríguez parted ways with G2 and stepped down as the CEO.

G2 Commits to Challengers League for a Chance at Partnership League

G2 will focus on the Challengers league and aim to qualify for the partnership league through the Ascension circuit. The tournament format allows top teams from the three major regions to qualify for their respective partnership leagues the following year.
