G2 knocks out FPX from VCT Stage 3 Challengers One main event

G2 Esports Defeats FunPlus Phoenix in VALORANT Champions Tour Europe Stage Three Challengers One

G2 Esports emerged victorious against FunPlus Phoenix (FPX) with a 2-1 win in round three of the lower bracket in the VALORANT Champions Tour Europe Stage Three Challengers One main event. Despite the loss, FPX and G2 both secured their spots in the EMEA Challengers Finals.

Kicking off the Challengers One main event, FPX defeated G2. However, FPX faced defeat against Acend in the upper semifinals, which led them to the lower bracket. FPX then managed to defeat Team Liquid, one of the two teams representing Europe in Masters Two Reykjavik, securing their place in the EMEA finals. This set the stage for a rematch against G2, who sought vengeance.

After moving to the lower bracket, G2 faced Rix.GG Thunder and easily defeated them 2-0. Their next match was against Fnatic, the other European team that made it to Iceland and battled Sentinels in the grand finals. Fnatic also failed to secure a victory, allowing G2 to continue dominating in the lower bracket and earn another chance against FPX.

G2 kicked off the series with an impressive 13-11 win on Bind, highlighted by nukkye securing an ace in a one-vs-four situation in the tenth round. Nukkye led his team with 27 kills, closely followed by G2’s Shao with 26 kills.

Map two, Icebox, went into overtime after G2 fought back and won the last five rounds. FPX managed to avoid a 2-0 sweep by winning in overtime, pushing the series to map three. However, FPX couldn’t maintain their momentum on Haven and suffered a 13-6 loss.

FPX is now out of the tournament, but both G2 and FPX have qualified for the EMEA Challengers playoffs. G2’s next challenge will be facing Guild Esports in the lower final tomorrow at 8am CT.
