G2 ends contract with full VALORANT division after being overlooked for partnership

G2 Esports Releases VALORANT Division

G2 Esports has decided to release all members of its VALORANT division, as they are currently not partnered with VALORANT and the VCT leagues for next year. Oscar “mixwell” Cañellas, Aaro “hoody” Peltokangas, Johan “Meddo” Renbjörk, Žygimantas “nukkye” Chmieliauskas, and Auni “AvovA” Chahade are now unrestricted free agents, while coach Daniil “pipsoN” Meshcheryakov has also been released. The G2 players and coach were moved to restricted free agency a month ago.

Future Opportunities for Players and Coach

Following their release, the G2 players and coach are now free to pursue any opportunities that come their way for next year. Mixwell is reportedly heading to Heretics, while the landing spots for the other players are still undetermined. As for G2’s future in VALORANT, they have not yet committed to competing in the EMEA Challengers league.

Changes in G2’s Trajectory

About a month ago, G2’s organizational trajectory changed drastically after a video surfaced of founder and then-owner Carlos Rodriguez partying with misogynist public figure Andrew Tate. This led to backlash from the esports community and eventually led to Rodriguez departing the company. This significant event had an impact on G2’s chances of partnering with VALORANT in the Americas league, as Riot officials reversed their plans during a meeting in Istanbul.
