G2 Esports Makes History with Dominant Victory over Sentinels in VALORANT VCT Masters

G2 Esports created a historic moment in their hometown as they convincingly defeated Sentinels 2-0 in the VCT Masters Berlin group stage. This impressive win snapped Sentinels’ 10-series winning streak and marked their first loss on an international VCT stage.

Icebox: G2 Takes Early Lead and Never Looks Back

On the cold map of Icebox, G2 Esports started strong as they took a commanding 7-0 lead on their attacking side. Sentinels struggled to counter keloqz on Jett, frequently fell victim to lurking nukkye, and failed to close out clutch situations. They found themselves trailing 9-3 at halftime, a shocking scoreline.

G2 continued their dominance in the second half, with keloqz securing early kills that made a Sentinels comeback nearly impossible. They secured a resounding 13-3 victory on Icebox, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.

Split: G2 Maintains Momentum and Shocks Sentinels

Despite Sentinels picking Split, G2’s momentum carried over from the previous map. Starting on the defensive side, G2 thwarted Sentinels’ attack routes and capitalized on their off day. TenZ’s heroics on Reyna kept Sentinels in the game, but AvovA’s performance with Astra smokes and his gun gave G2 an 8-4 halftime lead.

Sentinels showed signs of life by winning the crucial pistol round of the second half. They managed to take the lead, but G2 quickly regained control with a well-executed Astral Divide from AvovA. Despite dapr’s impressive plays, Sentinels couldn’t prevent the upset, and G2 secured a 13-11 victory on Split.

Historic Win for G2 Esports

This victory holds significant importance. It marks Sentinels’ first series loss at VCT Masters, having remained undefeated in Reykjavík and winning their first two series in Berlin. Notably, G2 is the only team that has managed to take a map off Sentinels between these events. Additionally, the win breaks Sentinels’ 10-series win streak. As a result, Sentinels will finish Group D as the second seed and face one of the first seeds, 100 Thieves, Team Envy, or Vision Strikers, in the quarterfinals.
