FPX expresses surprise and dissatisfaction with EMEA VALORANT partnership exclusion

Riot Games Announces VALORANT Partnerships: FunPlus Phoenix Expresses Disappointment

Riot Games has revealed the list of VALORANT teams that have been granted partnership, leaving FunPlus Phoenix (FPX) disappointed for not being selected.

FPX, a China-based organization that had players from various EMEA countries, released a statement expressing its shock and disappointment regarding the result. Unfortunately, FPX will be unable to compete in the highest-level Valorant league next year.

“Today we share the unfortunate news that we are not selected by Riot for the next VCT partnership program in 2023, which means we’ll be unable to compete in the highest-level Valorant league next year,” the statement reads.

FPX’s Outstanding Performance and Riot Games’ Selection Criteria

Contrary to past assumptions, Riot has clarified that previous competitive performance was not a deciding factor in the selection process. Instead, Riot was looking for organizations that shared its values, had a strong fan base, and were focused on long-term sustainability.

The statement highlights that FPX had a remarkable year in VALORANT, winning Masters Copenhagen and finishing in the top four at Champions 2022. According to VLR.gg, FPX is the top-ranked team among EMEA teams, with Fnatic, a partner team, closely following at No. 2.

FPX’s Future Plans and Uncertainty

Given the inability to compete at the highest level of VALORANT, FPX will now prioritize taking care of its players in the near future. The org’s mention of plans for long-term investment suggests that FPX is actively searching for a new home for its players.

It remains unclear whether FPX will field a tier-two roster for next year’s VALORANT competition. However, the organization is dedicated to ensuring the well-being of its players. Further updates on FPX’s plans and the potential formation of a VALORANT roster will be announced at a later date.
