Former Counter-Strike player AREA joins Team Liquid VALORANT as head coach

Team Liquid Trials AREA as Head Coach for VALORANT Team

European esports organization, Team Liquid, has conducted a trial with Julien “AREA” Dubois as the new head coach for their VALORANT team, according to multiple sources. This move comes after the departure of Connor “Sliggy” Blomfield.

The Rise of AREA and his Aiming Skills

In the early years of Global Offensive, AREA gained recognition in the French Counter-Strike scene for his exceptional aiming skills, being hailed as one of the best aimers in the game. His ability to consistently deliver headshots was comparable to that of Adil “ScreaM” Benrlitom, a former CS:GO player and a potential teammate in Team Liquid.

Controversy and VAC Ban

While ScreaM went on to reach the pinnacle of professional play, AREA declined the opportunity to compete alongside Team LDLC in 2013, leading to suspicions of cheating. In the same year, his Steam account was VAC banned, although he denied any involvement in cheating, as reported by VaKarM.net.

According to VaKarM, AREA claimed that his decision not to play with LDLC was due to a lack of motivation. It was also reported that he may have appealed the ban.

AREA Joins Liquid as VALORANT Head Coach

Despite his past controversies, AREA has been practicing with Liquid as the head coach for their VALORANT team, following Sliggy’s departure. Under Sliggy’s guidance, Liquid emerged as one of the top teams in Europe.

Liquid’s Current Performance and Upcoming Matches

In the EMEA VALORANT Champions Tour Stage Two group stage, Liquid holds a 2-1 record and currently sits in second place in Group B, just below Guild Esports. Their next matches are against Natus Vincere on June 3 and M3 Champions on June 10.

Liquid aims to secure a spot in the playoff stage, starting on June 26, in order to qualify for VCT Masters in Copenhagen, scheduled to take place from July 10 to July 25.
