Fan theory suggests that victories and defeats in VALORANT contribute to a greater narrative

A Fan Theory Explains the Mystery of Agents Respawn in VALORANT

The lore of VALORANT revolves around the powerful compound called Radianite and the intense battle between worlds to obtain it. However, one aspect of the game remains unexplained: why do agents respawn after every round? Fortunately, a fan theory has emerged that provides a satisfying explanation.

In a Reddit post on July 19, a VALORANT player by the name of murtiverse proposed a theory connecting the game’s respawn mechanic to KAY/O’s artificial intelligence. According to the theory, the matches we play are simulations run by KAY/O to evaluate different strategies and outcomes, preparing for a real fight where victory is crucial.

KAY/O’s reveal trailer, launched on June 17, 2021, supports this theory. The trailer shows KAY/O repeatedly reliving rounds to counter the enemy agents Yoru, Cypher, and Sage. Similarly, the rounds we experience in VALORANT matches could be driven by KAY/O’s determination to find the best strategy to defeat enemies.

While Riot Games has not confirmed this theory, it is definitely plausible. Many players have expressed their approval of murtiverse’s theory, providing additional insights to strengthen it.

In addition to supporting the theory, another player named farguc pointed out the connection between the recently launched Team Deathmatch mode and artificial intelligence. The mode is driven by Max Bot, a training bot created by Killjoy and Raze. After being dismantled, ignored, and mocked by Protocol’s agents, Max Bot goes rogue and sets a trap for them, forcing them into a game of killing, being killed, and respawning until a certain number of kills is achieved.

Another player pointed out a voice line from Phoenix that supports the idea of repeating rounds. Phoenix says, “This is crazy, it feels like we’ve been doing this forever. Anyone else feel like that? Just me? Okay.” While this may not directly prove KAY/O’s involvement, it strongly suggests that someone or something is causing the scenarios to repeat until a specific goal is achieved, such as winning 13 rounds or two consecutive rounds in overtime.

All of this aligns with KAY/O’s background. KAY/O comes from the future, created to fight alongside humans in the devastating Radiant War. Overwhelmed by the consequences of the war, KAY/O, despite being a robot, traveled back in time to preserve the peace between humans and radiants, even mourning the death of Brimstone.

Considering KAY/O’s ability to manipulate the present for the future, simulating rounds to test strategies is not far-fetched. While this theory remains unconfirmed, the idea of KAY/O playing a central role in VALORANT’s fast-paced competitive experience is an exciting lore element.
