Riot Games Teases New Duelist Agent with In-Game Easter Egg
Riot Games recently confirmed that the final agent to join VALORANT this year will be a duelist. The developers have been teasing players with hints, and this time, they’ve left an easter egg within the game itself.
A Twitter video, shared on October 3rd, showcased a player discovering a purple portal related to the new agent. The portal was located on Sunset, close to the defender’s spawn. After emitting smoke and electricity for 20 seconds, the portal closed and disappeared from the map.
This portal is the same as the agent’s battle pass card, Bulletproof, and is likely connected to the new agent’s ultimate ability. Similar to the cocoon card we saw for Deadlock’s ultimate a few months ago.
Fans have started speculating about what this ability could be. The most common theory is that the new agent will have teleportation capabilities, similar to Yoru or Omen, in addition to being bulletproof. However, having another teleporting agent might be frustrating to play against. EG Ethan even responded to the post with “pls no more teleporting” written six times.
But let’s not forget that Riot promised a “little twist you never thought would make it into VALORANT,” so simple teleportation might not be the whole story.
Some players have noticed that the portal resembles Phoenix’s active ultimate. It’s possible that the new agent will enter a bulletproof state and use the portal as an anchor when the state ends or after taking damage. Alternatively, the portal could provide the bulletproof state or damage reduction and remain until the enemy team destroys it.
The closest comparison in other games would be Revenant’s old totem from Apex Legends. You place it, and if you and your teammates take lethal damage, you’re teleported back to the totem. However, this does sound very similar to Phoenix’s ultimate ability.
If this does turn out to be a teleportation ability, I just hope it won’t disrupt the meta like Chamber did before his nerfs. It’s important to remember that everything I mentioned so far is likely related to the new duelist’s ultimate only, which means we still have three more abilities to discover!
